Lingenfelter Performance Engineering Partners with Formula Drift Pro 2 Driver Andrew Schulte

Brighton, Mich. – Lingenfelter Performance Engineering is excited to announce a new partnership for 2019, welcoming Andrew Schulte as an official driver and member of Team Lingenfelter. Andrew, driver of the number 216 “Itasha” style S13, now powered by Lingenfelter will be competing in Formula Drift Pro 2 for the 2019 season.

Born and raised in Cleveland OH, currently residing in Phoenix Arizona, Andrew has been drifting for over 7 years! Andrew earned and received his Formula Drift Pro 2 license in 2017, by finishing 3rd in the southwest drift series.

The car itself is not your typical GM chassis that we are known to build engines for! This 1993 Nissan 240sx has been heavily modified to equip an LS engine. Andrews’ S13 will be getting a new heart, a Lingenfelter LS7 for his rookie year in Formula Drift Pro 2.

Drifting rewards stylish driving, but also a stylish vehicle presence. As you can see from the photos below, this S13 does not look like your typical everyday racecar. A special theme and highlight in Andrews’s vehicle presence is the Anime. Anime is a large part of the Japanese culture, where drifting originally started. Andrew decided to style his car accordingly, allowing for a drastic color combination that really catches the eye out on the track!

Andrew will compete at all four rounds of Formula Drift Pro 2, as well as a few other major events throughout the year, such as LS Fest and Gridlife! We look forward to having another Team Lingenfelter driver represent the brand in the Formula Drift community, alongside Dirk Stratton, Formula Drift Pro Rookie of the Year for 2018! Lingenfelter is eager and excited to expand our presence in Formula Drift. Welcome to the Team Andrew!

Lingenfelter Race Team – Tracy Gaudu

Welcome to the Team Tracy!
I did not grow up around racing or motorsports but I have had a love for Corvette since a very young age.  I enlisted in the USAF after high school but didn’t own my first corvette until age 37 when I bought a 2005 C6 precision red automatic transmission car.  After buying this car, I quickly joined the Longhorn Corvette Club, in Austin, Texas, and subsequently became a member of National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) and was introduced to low-speed autocross and loved the competition.

I saw my current car, a 2008 C6ZO6 in a dealership showroom in late 2007, and although I didn’t know how to drive a manual transmission car, I thought I could indeed learn and win BIG.  I did win the NCCC Ladies National Points Championship in 2008. I also won the Southwest Region Championship in conjunction with the National Championship in 2008 which was difficult to do within the same year.

This was a huge year of learning – not only to learn how to drive/race/win events in a car very new to me but also had to learn how to load a car onto a trailer,
trailer it to events all over the country, and change out race tires on the car.  I did this all alone.  I was very driven to get to at least 3 weekends per month so I could maintain my points lead. I did this while working full time as a surgical physician assistant.
I enjoyed the few high-speed auto crosses NCCC put on and won the overall fastest time of day regularly and have class track records at multiple tracks.  I won Overall Top Competitor at NCCC Convention in Topeka in 2012 and had the overall fastest time of day (men/women) for high-speed autocross at NCCC National Convention at Raceway Park of the Midlands in Omaha in 2015.
I continued to enjoy high-speed events and to get more seat time I have attended at least 10 HPDE’s/year over the past couple of years all while adding parts to the car to make it more competitive. I needed to get back into the competition so I decided to join NASA and got my TT (time trial) license late last year.  My first event with my license, I scored a podium finish at Roebling Road Raceway in TT1.
Over the winter of 2017, I wanted to really make the car as competitive as possible in TT1 and thought the HP part of the equation would do it.  I looked at
several different engine builders and went with Lingenfelter not only for their reputation but I feel they are the “gold standard” and I wanted the best. I was able to win, my first NASA event in 2018, first place overall out of 24 drivers, in TT at the NASA Great Lakes Region crossover with Central and Mid-South Regions at NCM Motorsports Park on March 23-25, 2018.
I feel the 650 HP LS7 Lingenfelter engine did help make that win happen!!
Looking forward to competing at Hyperfest at VIR May 18 – 20th  competing in NASA TT1 and the Tire Rack’s Ultimate Track Car Challenge with my Lingenfelter Performance Engineering sponsored 2008 atomic orange C6Z06.
Super proud to be a part of the Lingenfelter Race Team!” – Tracy Gaudu

Lingenfelter Power and Reliability for the New 48 Hour Camaro

We like to drive our cars hard. Everyone makes that claim, but RideTech lives it. Lap after lap and from one weekend to the next, we pound our cars mercilessly. That means we need more than just a powerful engine. We need reliable power. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering thoroughly understands that concept. For the new 48 Hour Camaro, a 1971 model, Lingenfelter is providing a custom built 6.2L LS3 with CNC ported aluminum heads and their impressive GT11 hydraulic roller camshaft.  The engine makes 579 HP @6400 RPM and 487 Ft-Lbs of torque at 5500 rpm.  With more than 400 Ft-Lbs of torque available as early as 2700 rpm, the new 48 Hour Camaro will pull away from corners like a freight train. Likewise, it will idle smoothly with the AC at full blast. In other words, Lingenfelter is supplying the perfect powerplant for this 48 Hour Camaro.

In working with Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, we made a few requests.  We really love LS architecture, but prefer the look of old-school small blocks.  LPE obliged by installing a racy-looking Holley single plane intake manifold along with Holley’s MPFI throttle body. A set of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering billet valve covers complete the classic vibe by fully concealing the coil packs. Though we could have relocated the coils, LPE’s solution is far more elegant and convenient. We also had LPE install a Holley polished aluminum oil pan.  The design will make it easier for us to install the engine during the 48 Hour thrash.

The pictures below show OE style pulleys and accessories along with a set of dyno headers.  As the car comes together, we will install a Vintage Air LSX Series Frontrunner system along with Vintage Air AC, of course. Frontrunners provide stable belt alignment and tension from idle all the way up to redline rpm and beyond. Hooker will supply the headers with an emphasis on maximum ground clearance. We fully intend to drive this car in a wide variety of environments.

While it is entirely possible to build an engine with more horsepower, we place high emphasis on how the 48 Hour Camaro will be driven.  It is not unreasonable for RideTech to make 20 autocross laps per day for two days, then drive three states away and repeat the process.  Given these objectives, our Lingenfelter Performance Engineering LS3 provides peace of mind as well as significant power.

Look for more engine news and videos — including full walk-around and start-up footage — during the 48 Hour Camaro build at Barrett-Jackson.

Lingenfelter CNC ported aluminum heads are good for more than 100HP over stock LS parts when used in conjunction with the right cam, compression, induction and exhaust.

Lingenfelter-LS3-holley-oil-pan-e1515111117795 A Holley LS Retro-Fit oil pan was installed. The conversion kit includes a cast aluminum 6 qt pan, sump baffle, oil pump pickup tube, sump plug, oil filter stud, and oil passage cover.

Lingenfelter-LS3-roller-cam-e1515110790458 LPE’s GT11 cam is one of the most versatile profiles available for LS engines. Specs are 215/231 duration @ .050 with .631″/.644″ lift.

Lingenfelter-LS3-Intake-e1515110250516 A Holley single plane intake manifold offers plenty of low end grunt plus and sets the tone for classic small block, four-barrel vibe.

Lingenfelter-LS3-holley-throttle-body-e1515111595200 A Holley MPFI Throttle body tops off the single plane intake. The standard flange accepts a traditional 14″ air cleaner.

Lingenfelter-LS3-valve-cover-complete-e1515112375731 As installed, the finished valve covers fully conceal the coil packs and allow for short spark plug wires. Lingenfelter provided a set of heat-shielding boots.

Lingenfelter-LS3-valve-covers-e1515111966548Lingenfelter Performance Engineering offers these multi-piece billet valve covers. The upper covers conceal unsightly coil packs and are vented to let heat escape. Breather tubes fit between the upper and lower covers.

48 Hour Build: Here we go again

48hour-camaroduplicate-800x533Once again, it is time to pull out all of the stops and build another great hot rod in just 48 Hours.  The fourth 48 Hour project is taking place in January at the 2018 Barrett-Jackson Auction, Scottsdale, Ariz. RideTech and a team of manufacturers will turn a really good 1971 Camaro to  a Pro-Touring masterpiece using the latest and greatest go-fast parts.

Last year’s 48 Hour project, a 68 GMC short bed pickup, proved to be extremely successful.  The build unfolded in front of 300,000-plus event attendees at the 2017 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. A constant crowd of enthusiasts looked on as the six day (8 hours per day) thrash ensued. One onlooker, in particular, liked the truck so much that he purchased it on the auction block. The eventual buyer  returned daily during the build to check on the progress of his truck.

For this new project, the excitement will continue long after the build and the Barrett-Jackson auction event have concluded. The new 48 Hour Camaro is a keeper. It’s not for sale (not yet anyway).  We will show it and race it alongside it’s upstart sibling — the new Track 1 Camaro. Like Jekyl and Hyde, the two 2nd Gen cars have starkly contrasting personalities.  The orange 48 Hour Camaro represents a street-friendly, yet highly capable Pro-Touring car, while the caged and carbon fiber-equipped Track 1 Camaro represents a street legal race car. More details on the Track 1 build can be found HERE, but for now, let’s focus on the new 48 Hour Camaro project.

We are still discussing part numbers and possibilities with last minute build partners, but most of the key components and systems are set in stone.  The pre-existing 300-horse crate small block is being replaced with a Lingenfelter Performance Engineering 550 Horsepower LS3. The 100% street friendly combination features ported and polished heads a hydraulic roller cam, Holley EFI, MSD ignition and Hooker exhaust. Lingenfelter has developed an exceptional combination of power and reliability. The existing “analog” 700R4 will be replaced with a Bowler 4L65E electronic overdrive transmission with Sonnax Level 3 upgrades and a Pro Torque billet, lock-up torque converter. The existing brakes — discs up front and rear drums — will be replaced with Baer 13″ four wheel disc brakes. Forgeline ML3C 18″ diameter wheels will be wrapped in a set of B.F. Goodrich Rivals. As we plan on driving this car aggressively and competitively, the heavy duty brakes, wheels, tires and suspension are mandatory.

Speaking of suspension, we will, of course, be installing RideTech StrongArm control arms and Tru Turn steering up front with our new “unicradle” design Bolt-On 4-Link kit with a Currie Enterprises Crate 9″ Rear. and trick MillerBuilt floater axle conversion. RideTech TQ Series triple adjustable coilovers will be used all around.

Vintage Air air conditioning will add comfort and reliability while Kicker is providing the tunes.  Tracy Weaver at Recovery Room is already hard at work upholstering the interior panels.  Classic Instruments is supplying the gauges. We will be reaching out to Summit Racing Equipment for a wide range of parts, tools and supplies — both before and during the build process. If we forget to buy anything during the planning stage, the closest Summit Racing Equipment warehouse is just one day away in Nevada.

These 48 Hour builds are grueling — especially the outdoor builds.  Last January, the weather did notcooperate.  On day seven of the build, the team from EA Wraps was working in cold, ankle-deep water.  For this build, we hope to be working in shorts and T-shirts. Weather aside, RideTech and the many 48 Hour build partners love turning wrenches. There is something special about transforming a cool car in front of 300,000-plus onlookers. Enthusiasts monitor progress, ask questions and study the parts that are awaiting installation.

At the culmination of the 2017 build, we were sad to see the 48 Hour C10 sell.  When you build something with your own hands, it’s easy to get emotionally attached. For this project, we are thrilled to be taking the new 48 Hour Camaro home. Likewise, we are eager to drive it across the country, race it and show it off alongside the Track 1 Camaro in 2018. Buckle up, this is going to be a wild ride.

IMG_6822-e1512581404182BEFORE PHOTO: The interior is in decent shape. We’re going to take it to another level with custom upholstery upgrades from Recovery Room Hot Rod Interiors and gauges from Classic Instruments.

IMG_3070-e1513112198484We have done this sort of thing before including the first 48 Hour Camaro, the 48 Hour Corvette and the 48 Hour C10 pickup. The 48 Hour Corvette Build was an extreme thrash with a lot of people working on a very compact car. The 2nd gen Camaro should be easier to work on.

IMG_1912-e1513113109481The 2018 48 Hour Camaro is based on an existing development car with a very nice paint job. We have used this car to test various suspension products over the years. Now will turn it into a highly capable pro-touring machine.

Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Drag Race Results – Holley LS Fest 2017 Lingenfelter COPO Battle At The Green!

LINGENFELTER COPO BATTLE AT THE GREEN

Former NHRA national event finalist Emily Volkman drove her ’15 COPO Camaro to the Lingenfelter COPO Battle at the Green victory with a final-round decision over Brian Palcisko. Palcisko had the slightly better reaction time, but Volkman was closer to her dial with a 9.20 on a 9.17 dial opposite his fast-closing 8.92 on an 8.80.

With a consistent string of runs within just hundredths of a second of 9.20 all day, Volkman defeated Bowling Green’s Donnie Bray, recent NHRA divisional event winner Daren Poole-Adams, and, in the semifinals, Jim McLeod, who narrowly red-lighted. Poole-Adams paced all qualifiers with a .019 light. 1986 NHRA Stock world champion Al Corda was No. 2 with a .023, Holley Director of EFI Business Development Robin Lawrence was third with a .026, and Volkman was fourth with a .041.
