Grand Champion, Autocross, & 3S Challenge Results Holley LS Fest 2017

After all the tire smoke from more than 1,200 cars and three days of non-stop action literally had cleared, Danny Popp walked off with the top prize, the Grand Champion crown. With a record crowd looking on – the biggest in the long history of Beech Bend Raceway Park – Popp drove his ’03 Corvette Z06 to victory by a wide margin (13 points) over another veteran of the LS Fest wars, Rich Wilhoff, who also finished in the runner-up position at the inaugural LS Fest West earlier this year in Las Vegas.

Popp came out on top in both QA1 Autocross events – one at Beech Bend Raceway Park and the other at NCM Motorsports Park – to earn the maximum possible Autocross points: 50. He finished second in the 3S Challenge and third in the Drag Race for a grand total of 92 points – just eight points shy of a perfect 100.

Driving an ’06 Corvette Z06, Wilhoff ruled the 3S Challenge and was second to Popp in both Autocross events but finished just 11th in drag racing for a total of 79 points. Joe Gregory was a distant third behind Wilhoff with 56 points, and Sam Strano narrowly edged out Ryan Mathews and Tyler Powell for fourth place overall.

Popp topped all challengers on the NCM Autocross track, winning with a time of 42.766 seconds, about a half-second faster than Wilhoff’s second-place time of 43.253. Strano, who finished fourth in the overall Grand Champion standings. Mike DuSold, Grand Champion of both the 2016 LS Fest and the 2017 LS Fest West in Las Vegas, was fourth, and Jack Stanford was fifth.

On the equally challenging Beech Bend Raceway Park Autocross course, Popp again emerged victorious, again over Wilhoff. This one was even closer – Wilhoff actually tied Popp right to the thousandth of a second with a time of exactly 31.107 seconds , the first time LS Fest officials have observed that in competition – but Popp won the tiebreaker (runoff combined time), 62.060 seconds to Wilhoff’s close 62.111. Stanford was about a half-second back with a 31.508, Strano was about a half-second behind Stanford with a 31.568, and Larry Woo rounded out the top five with a time of 31.657.

Wilhoff was second to no one at the Baer/Super Chevy 3S Challenge, registering a winning time of 22.262. He also took home the coveted Vette Magazine Fastest Corvette award. Popp was right on his heels at 22.515, and Logan Palmer’s ’11 Corvette was right behind him with a score of 22.756 seconds. Fourth place went to Bret Voelkel’s Camaro (22.844 seconds), and fifth-place honors went to Tyler Powell’s ’63 Corvette with a time of 23.035.

Lingenfelter Collection Charity Fall Open House 2017

Brighton, Mich. – On Saturday, October 14, the public will have a chance to browse a 40,000 sq. ft. showroom displaying 150 unique cars including Corvettes, muscle cars and exotics. Ken and Kristen Lingenfelter are opening the doors to their private Lingenfelter Collection – rated one of the top car collections in the World – to raise money and awareness for programs of The Pink Fund.

The mission of The Pink Fund is to provide a 90 day non-medical financial bridge to breast cancer patients in active treatment. Expenses supported include health insurance premiums, housing, transportation and utilities. The Pink Fund helps to meet basic needs and decrease stress levels, helping breast cancer patients strengthen their fight to improve survivorship outcomes and quality of life.

Deborah Hale, a Brighton resident, was diagnosed with breast cancer in February. She was unable to keep her job with Visiting Angles and still had her two children, husband and home to care for. While her family was, and is, of great help to her, the financial impact caused hardship.

“There is so much that happens to you mentally and physically once you have been diagnosed with breast cancer – it’s scary,” said Deborah. “The Pink Fund team helped to relive the anxiety of keeping bills paid and getting me to treatments so I could focus on my health and my family. They are an incredibly generous and helpful organization. I do not know what I would have done without their support.”

Guests attending the Open House will be able to support The Pink Fund by making a monetary donation at the door. In addition to viewing the collection, guests may enjoy Tim Horton’s coffee and pastries provided by Two Unique Catering. Tony’s Dogs mobile hot dog stand will be available for guests’ snack, lunch & drink purchases throughout the event. Ken Lingenfelter will be autographing posters and will be available for pictures in exchange for a small donation. There will also be a silent auction and raffle and quick-sketch artist Darrell Swift will be providing complementary drawings of guests in front of their favorite vehicle within The Lingenfelter Collection. 100% of the event proceeds will directly benefit The Pink Fund.

Saturday, October 14,   10:00 am – 5:00 pm

About The Lingenfelter Collection: This private collection of over 150 vehicles is hailed as one of the best rate car collections in the World. Belonging to Ken Lingenfelter, the collection is 40% Corvettes, 30% Muscle Cars and 30% Exotics. At times, Ken and his wife Kristen open the collection to the public for viewing, with all event proceeds directly benefiting the charity of choice. 65 Corvettes, and that isn’t even the cool part!

The most remarkable thing might not be the 220-mph Ferrari Enzo in Ken Lingenfelter’s fleet, or even the 1,001-horsepower Bugatti Veyron. It’s that his driving record is as clean as the Bugatti’s hood.

Lingenfelter, 64, loves cars. All of them. But the ones that go faster than practicality or common sense might demand …

Those, he especially loves.

Among other things, that explains how he got expelled from high school. It’s also the reason he’s amassed the Lingenfelter Collection, 250 smoldering Corvettes, muscle cars and exotics — plus an AMC Pacer — that might, if started simultaneously, blow the roof off the spotless Brighton warehouse where about 170 of them lurk at any one time.

The 40,000-square-foot warehouse is not open to the public. Lingenfelter is operating a business, not a museum. Fortunately, the older and more successful he gets, the more he realizes that not even his 2014 Supercharged Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray can outrun things like autism or Alzheimer’s. And cancer?

Cancer has already tracked down his family. So maybe 50 times a year, he’ll let a charitable organization throw some sort of small fundraiser among the vehicles — and come April 29, everyone is invited.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lingenfelter and his wife, Kristen, will be the genial hosts for an open house that raised $25,000 for the American Cancer Society last time around.

“It’s an incredible opportunity,” says Cheryl Donohoe of the ACS, and not just to collect money. There’s added value to being associated with rare cars and a rare glimpse of them, and to exposing thousands of people to potentially life-saving literature.

She saw checks last year for $100 and more, though there’s no specific entry fee; just make whatever donation your heart demands and checkbook will permit. Or if you can’t get there, wait until October and a similar event for the breast-cancer-specific Pink Fund.

There will be food trucks, a new attraction. There will be gawking. There will be a demonstration of proper polishing and protection. And there will be audience participation, in that historically people drive their own collectable cars to 7819 Lochlin Drive to show them off.

“I can’t get out of the building that day,” Lingenfelter says, and there is regret in his voice, because as noted he is a man who adores automobiles.

Fortunately, so was the last police officer to pull him over.

It was four years ago, he says, in a 25 mph Oakland County speed trap. He was driving a juiced-up Chevy SS Trailblazer with a none-too-subtle Lingenfelter banner across the top of the windshield.

“I can’t wait to see your driving record,” the officer told him. “I got the champion.”

He came back a few minutes later with a sheepish expression and a request. He would not sully Lingenfelter’s file, he said, on one condition:

“Show me what’s under the hood.”

Car collector Lingenfelter to showcase treasures at cancer fund-raiser

An open house featuring performance-car builder and enthusiast Ken Lingenfelter’s massive collection will showcase around 175 cars and raise money for cancer research. About 30% of the cars in the collection are muscle cars, 30% Corvettes and 40% drag- and road-racing cars from the Lingenfelter family’s history of competition and building mega-horsepower specialty cars.

One-of-a-kind models and rare vehicles from the 1950s to today will include Lingenfelter’s personal La Ferrari, a million-dollar hybrid sports car, one of just 500 ever sold. Other Ferraris in the collection includes an Enzo and 280 GTO.

Lingenfelter also has a Lamborghini Reventon, one of just 20 sold by the other Italian exotic brand. Lamborghini named the 6.5L V12 coupe after a Mexican fighting bull that killed a famous matador in the ring in 1943.

Other rarities on display will include:

The sole surviving supercharged 1953 Chevrolet Corvette
A Bugatti Veyron, the 1,000-horsepower car that revived a legendary brand
A Ford GT from the car’s 2005-6 generation
A Vector, one of just 50 of the aircraft-inspired “American exotics” built in the 1980s and ‘90s
Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione, the car that began Alfa’s rebirth a decade ago
Cars built by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering include a 2002 Corvette that hit 60 m.p.h. in 1.9 seconds racing the U.S. Navy Blue Angels down a runway.

“If it’s a nice day, there will probably be a lot of great cars to see in the parking lot,” as owners bring their favorites to the show, Lingenfelter said

The open house raises money for the American Cancer Foundation. There’s no set admission charge, but donations of any amount are welcome at the door.

Previous Lingenfelter open houses have drawn 4,000-5,000 people.

“We’ve got a steady crowd in and out all day,” Lingenfelter said.

Sam Schmidt to Take on Mario Andretti at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Sam Schmidt to Take on Mario Andretti at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

LONG BEACH, CA (April 8, 2017) – Former INDYCAR drivers Sam Schmidt and Mario Andretti announced today they will go head to head in a race next month at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Schmidt Peterson Motorsports co-owner and Indianapolis 500 legend will race semi-autonomous cars on the circuit’s 2.439-mile permanent road course on May 13 ahead of the INDYCAR Grand Prix.

Sam Schmidt, who is paralyzed from the neck down, will pilot the Z06 SAM Car, a semi-autonomous vehicle that global technology company Arrow Electronics modified for him. Sensors mounted on a high-tech headset the Las Vegas resident wears connect to infrared cameras mounted on the dashboard and detect his head-tilt motions to steer. A sip-and-puff device that Schmidt breathes into enables him to accelerate and brake. Voice commands enable Sam to switch gears and turn the SAM Car on and off. Andretti will use the same technology to drive an Arrow-modified Stingray SAM Car.

“It’s always exciting when I can get in this awesome car and go fast,” Schmidt commented. “However, this time will have extra meaning as I never had a chance to race against Mario during my driving career. He is a true legend that is world renowned and I appreciate his willingness to participate and showcase the next evolution of this technology.”

“Indianapolis has long been considered a test ground for automotive technologies, and Sam and the Arrow Chevy Corvette have continued to prove that, including a 150-mph run last year at IMS,” said Doug Boles, President of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “Adding a match race between Mario Andretti, one of the most popular and talented drivers to ever compete at Indy, and Sam this May just takes the technology to the next level!”

This will be the first time two semi-autonomous cars have raced head to head. The legendary faceoff will benefit Conquer Paralysis Now, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and a leading authority on spinal cord injury research and treatment founded by Schmidt. Race week donation details will be available at a later date by visiting www.conquerparalysisnow.org.

LINGENFELTER CAR COLLECTION CHARITY SPRING OPEN HOUSE Benefitting the American Cancer Society

One of the top rated car collections in the world will be opening its doors to the public for one special day. The unique vehicles will be available for viewing as money and awareness is raised to support the programs of the American Cancer Society during an open house on Saturday, April 29, 10 am – 5 pm.

“We are thankful for the generosity the Lingenfelters and their ongoing support of our mission,” said Cheryl Donohoe, senior director corporate relations for the American Cancer Society. “The donations raised at this event will help the Society provide critical support to cancer patients through the many programs and services we offer, fund lifesaving research to save lives from cancer and enable us prevent cancer in our community and across the nation.”

The Lingenfelter Collection is a private collection of Ken and Kristen Lingenfelter. Over 200 distinctive vehicles, comprised of Corvettes, Muscle Cars and Exotics, fill the large, 40,000 Sq. ft., facility in Brighton. Each spring and fall, the Lingenfelters open the Collection to the public while raising support for important nonprofit organizations. This is the second consecutive year that the American Cancer Society has been chosen to be the recipient of the proceeds from the spring event.

The American Cancer Society relies on more than 100 years of evidence and proven results to prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from cancer. The organization provides the funds for cutting-edge cancer research that can lead to better treatments; advocates for better laws to help people locally and across the nation who are threatened by cancer; and helps patients and their families with their most pressing needs, including getting rides to treatment, navigating the health care system, and dealing with the side effects of treatment. Thanks in part to the Society’s work, there are nearly 14.5 million people alive in the United States alone who have survived cancer. In fact, more than 500 lives are being saved each day that would have otherwise been lost to cancer.

Guests attending the Open House will be able to support the Society by making a monetary donation at the door. Throughout the afternoon, Ken Lingenfelter will be signing a limited edition event poster, the 2017 Indy Show Car used to promote the Detroit Grand Prix will be on display, Dream Maker’s Automotive will have an exhibit and special show car for viewing, and door prizes will be awarded. Refreshments and food vendors, including Tony’s Dogs and Marconi’s Pizza, will also be available as guests browse the showroom. All open house proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

New to the event this year is an Adam’s Polishes Detail Clinic. Adam Pitale, Founder of Adam’s Polishes, will share tips and advice on proper/safe washing, machine polishing/swirl removal, and proper protection and maintenance.

48- Hour Corvette Update

It has been a FANTASTIC weekend for the RideTech crew, as Chris Smith piloted the Instinct-equipped 48-Hour Corvette to yet another amazing win!!

The Fort Worth Goodguys show is historically hot, dusty, and chock-full of great competition. RideTech and our customers again filled the leaderboard at this event; four out of the top 5 spots in the PRO class were RideTech-equipped, with the 1st, 2nd, and 4th place spots going to cars with our new Instinct Electronic Shocks! Texas is also renowned for truck culture, so it’s no surprise that the Truck class at this event was one of the largest of the entire Goodguys season…and it’s also no surprise that all of the top 3 spots in the Truck class were RideTech customers! The weather was fantastic and boasted near-record attendance, the turnout for the autocross was phenomenal, and both competitors and spectators were impressed by the turnout and the awesome autocross action. We’ve got lots more events coming up in March and April, so stay tuned for even more great finishes by the RideTech team!
